Little James' Big Adventures

Creating worldly kids!

Little James' Big Adventures - Japan

Little James and Susie travel to Asia to visit the country of Japan! The Globe lands them in Shibuya crossing in the center of Tokyo. Little James and Susie visit famous temples and shrines. Then they visit Kyoto where they admire the shops, zen gardens, and bamboo forest, and they eat a delicious meal of ramen and sushi. They then head to Nara where they enjoy the wild but tame deer population. They are able to pet, feed, and interact with the deer. James and Susie are already having so much fun when they witness a mochi-pounding show! They watch how mochi, a traditional Japanese dessert, is made. It is made by two men who hit the dough repeatedly with large hammers. When it’s done James and Susie taste their mochi and are delighted by how unique and yummy it is. They end their journey with the breathtaking site of Mt. Fuji, a large and still active volcano. They also learn some words in Japanese throughout their adventure.

Apart from hopping on a plane, the best way for children to learn about the world is through reading—and travel books for children are some of the most touching, open-minded works available. If you are unable to risk travel in the interim, we have a fantastic alternative that will be both enjoyable and educational.

Janine lived overseas for several years and always appreciated the fun differences between her home country, the U.S., and the rest of the world. She created the Little James' Big Adventures series to encourage a global mindset in young children and cultivate an appreciation for other cultures. As a mother, she believes it is important for our kids to be worldly. These books give your child the experience and knowledge of traveling abroad, all from home with characters they'll grow to love.
